Jane King volunteered at a health ward during her free time. They didn't want to leave the chance an inmate would go berserk and attack her, she was only young, so they put her with the suicidal and bipolar, pretty easy work.
She'd be very friendly towards many of the inmates; most of them, in return, treated her with respect. She didn't exactly have "favourites" But she grew very fondly of a mute who tried to slice his wrists after attacking a young woman. His name was Arthur.
Anyone who worked with Jane would also chat to Arthur and then talk to each other and resume their shifts. Jane grew much attached to Arthur and would spend hours rambling on to him, about her family, her friends, her love life, whatever. He didn't, couldn't, reply. Instead, Arthur just nods.

I was just sitting on my couch, lazily watching the television present some sort of sitcom. I sat there unbelievably bored. Shortly after the break, I got a call on my phone, my mum asked if I could do something for her, she wanted me to pick up some groceries for her. I scribbled down the list of items she wanted me to buy. "Oh, and don't forget, I need some milk, too."
"Sure, mum, I'll do it now."
I scrunched the list up and tossed it in my pocket and left the house and went to the store.
I went through the store as I normally would and when I got to the counter, the employee, a woman in her mid thirties, joked "Hey, you know there's no milk crisis, right?" I smiled and paid her.
